    _____________________________________________

    Dear Religious School Families,

Shalom! It is with great excitement that we begin the registration process for another joyous, meaningful, uplifting experience at Kehillat Torah Religious School year 5779-5780 / 2019-2020 school year!

Please join us August 25 for our Back to Beth Shalom Picnic at TBS! Our first day of religious school will be Sunday, September 8 at Camp Hoover, and our first regular day at the New Albany JCC and Open House is Sunday, September 15. We are thrilled to return to our Sunday home, the New Albany JCC for our fifth year.

Our Kindergarten - 2nd Grade program will continue to be a program dedicated to creating a sense of Jewish community. Our 3rd-6th grade Hebrew students will continue using the Kol Yisrael book series, a curriculum designed by Hebrew teacher Galit Golan, prayer books, and supplemental learning with games, music and services. Throughout the morning students also connect with their Jewish heritage through music, prayer services, electives and other activities. 7th grade will continue learning about hot button issues, along with a unit on the Holocaust. Our 8th-10th graders will focus on Jewish topics in electives along with our Confirmation track. We will also build on the strengths of our madrichim program as a fun, professional environment!

Our students also have opportunities to have special off-site experiences, including a family fun day at Camp Hoover; 6th grade retreat; 10th-12th grade confirmation trip to New York; and Mitzvah Day! Families also gather throughout the year with Grade Breakfasts and Shabbat services. During Sunday mornings Rabbi Bar-Lev and Rabbi Kopans offer special adult education for parents too!

All of this is made possible by our students, madrichim, parents, teachers, faculty, and religious school committee.

Registration automatically rolls over for current students. You only need to re-register if you have:
    -  A new incoming student
    -  A 3rd grade student beginning Hebrew (and 2nd session)
    -  Any information changes!

A new vaccination form is required for all families before the start of the year. Please find it under the Religious School tab or by clicking here. Thank you for ensuring the health and safety of our religious school.

If you have any questions or concerns about next year or about the registration process, please let us know!

    L'Shalom,
    Rabbi Lenette Herzog, Education Director
    Angelo Dunlap, Administrator
    Rabbi Benjy Bar-Lev, Senior Rabbi
  • TBS Religious School Vacc...

Up to now, Temple Beth Shalom has not believed that a formal vaccination policy for the Kehillat Religious School was necessary due to required vaccinations for children in public schools.  However, there have been recent outbreaks of measles and other preventable diseases caused by the lack of vaccinations. Specifically, the number of measles cases in the U.S. has reached its second-highest level in 25 years. The lack of vaccination presents a clear public health threat.

Safety and public health are priorities for all URJ organizations -- including Temple Beth Shalom. The establishment of a safe environment must therefore include the requirement that all members of the TBS Kehillat Torah Religious School community be adequately immunized against all of the preventable diseases as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

Any individual who attends as a student and/or who teaches in our Kehillat Torah Religious School must have up-to-date, age-appropriate vaccines as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), or verify they are medically exempt from said vaccines.

TBS requires families to submit the below online form verifying their child(ren) have received these vaccinations, or have medical exemptions.

If you would like to view the TBS vaccination policy in full you may read it here on the TBS website.

Please fill out the form below for each of your students, and if you have any questions, please be in touch with Rabbi Lenette via the temple office at 614-855-4882 or via email at [email protected]
  • TBS Religious School 2022...

    _____________________________________________

    Dear Religious School Families,

Shalom! It is with great excitement that we begin the registration process for another joyous, meaningful, IN PERSON experience at TBS Religious School year 5781-5782 / 2021-2022 school year!

Once again, Religious School is not increasing this year. It is our priority to ensure all students can attend Religious School; if you have any financial concerns or questions please be in touch with our Executive Director, Bobby Covitz.

Our Religious School program is dedicated to creating a sense of Jewish community through engaging lessons, prayer, and music.

We will be continuing to build on the success of our 4th-6th grade Small Group Hebrew model. We are also thrilled to be reintroducing highlights of our program pre-pandemic, including Family Opening Day; 6th grade retreat; 10th-12th Grade Confirmation Trip to New York; Chugim electives; and Grade Breakfasts!! Families also gather throughout the year with Grade Breakfasts and Shabbat services. Stay tuned for even more exciting, new programming including a revamped Teen Program.

All of this is made possible by our students, madrichim, parents, teachers, faculty, and religious school committee.

Registration automatically rolls over for all students who were enrolled for Religious School in 5782 (2021-2022). You only need to re-register if you have:
    -  A new incoming student
    -  A 3rd grade student beginning Hebrew
    -  Any information changes!

A vaccination form is required for all families before the start of the year. Please find it under the Religious School tab or by clicking here. Thank you for ensuring the health and safety of our religious school. Separately, we encourage all families to get the COVID vaccine when they are eligible and if they are able to do so.

If you have any questions or concerns about next year or about the registration process, please let us know!

    L'Shalom,
    Rabbi Lenette Herzog, Education Director
Angelo Dunlap, Youth Group Advisor and Administrator
    Rabbi Benjy Bar-Lev, Senior Rabbi

    Dear Religious School Families,

Shalom! It is with great excitement that we are beginning the registration process for the 5778-5779 / 2018-2019 school year! Whether you are registering online or with a regular paper registration packet, you are signing your children up for a joyous, meaningful, uplifting experience at Kehillat Torah Religious School this year.

We are thrilled to be returning to our Sunday home, the New Albany JCC for the fourth year. Having a space that large has enabled our teachers to do more small group work, use classroom space more creatively, and spread out for whole class activities. We also are planning a Back-to-Beth Shalom day this next school year, along with some great field trips.

Our Kindgergarten - 2nd Grade Program will continue to be fantastic this year, with wonderful teacher, a great curriculum, and a program dedicated to creating a sense of Jewish community among our kids. For all of our Judaic classes we will continue using the Union for Reform Judaism's CHAI curriculum, which has been fantastic for our children.

Along with specialized programs, we are continuing to strengthen our core programs each year. Our Hebrew students will continue using our new interactive program Kol Yisrael, which has a fantastic online learning portion for students and families to use at home.

Our fully staffed Hebrew tutoring center, Open Hebrew, for students in need of some one-on-one help in Hebrew, has been a fantastic addition, as well as specialized acclerated classes for those students whose Hebrew skills are advanced.

We also have a special "Torah Trope" class for our 6th graders, where they learned how to chant the Torah. This class has been very successful. As always, we are proud of our Optional Wednesday Hebrew program, which allows kids in 3rd-6th Grade to learn in smaller classes at their own pace.

We are extremely excited to be again rolling out brand new programming for our older grades this year. Our Yeshivat Noar 7th and 8th Grade program will be adding a Jewish Ethics Course this year, in addition to our Holocaust studies. Our High School students will continue our new curriculum based on Jewish values and responses to hot button issues like tattooing, modesty, abortion, eating disorders, drugs/alcohol, saving a life and more. They'll end the year learning about the "Jewcy Torah Stories" that they were too young to learn about in the past! We have fantastic new teachers teaching in 7th/8th Grade and High School this year!

We are so excited to be starting another wonderful year at our Religious School! If you have any questions or concerns about next year or about the registration process, please let me know!

    L’Shalom,
    Rabbi Lenette Herzog

    Dear Current and Future Madrichim,

Shalom! All of us at TBS are so excited that you’ve chosen to be a madricha/madrich for the 2019-2020 school year. Thank you for spending your Sunday mornings assisting our teachers and being mentors and role models to our younger students! You are an invaluable part of our religious school community.

We are looking forward to continuing and building on the successful changes to our program last year, including Mitzvah Corps, new pay tiers, t-shirts, and name tags! While we are sad to see Hannah leave a position that has brought so many great things to madrichim and youth programming, we are so excited to see all the great things she will do in New York!

We are thrilled to welcome Hilary Kleppel as our new madrichim coordinator. You may have seen Hilary last year in Madrichim in Training first session, 5th grade second session, or leading the awesome Minute to Win It chug. We are thrilled that Hilary is joining the religious school team and leading our madrichim program!

A few reminders as you fill out the application:

Pay Tiers: $9/hour for madrichim in Hebrew classrooms; $8.50/hour for madrichim in all other classrooms as well as office positions; and $8.15/hour for Mitzvah Corps. Please select "Mitzvah Corps" if you'd like to join the fun this year and if you have any questions about it please reach out to Rabbi L!

8th-10th graders: choose one tier for first session, as you have Judaics electives second session.

Please fill out the form below to express your interest in joining/returning to the Madrichim Program! The application is due August 21st.

    Dear Current and Future Madrichim,

Shalom! All of us at Beth Shalom are so excited that you’ve chosen to be a madricha/madrich for the 2018-2019 school year. Thank you for spending your Sunday mornings assisting our teachers and being mentors and role models to our younger students! You are an invaluable part of our religious school community.

While many aspects of our Madrichim Program will remain the same in the coming year, some of its structure will be changing.

The biggest change for this year is we will be changing the pay structure for our program. Instead of higher pay for seniority, we will be changing to three pay tiers that reflect your type of work as a madrich/madricha.

The highest tier ($9/hour) will be for madrichim in Hebrew classrooms; the second tier ($8.50) for madrichim in all other classrooms as well as office positions; and the third ($8.15) for a new group that we are calling Mitzvah Corps!

The Mitzvah Corps group will be outside of classrooms, but will still have a leadership role in our religious school community. The group will help lead various projects related to the religious school community (such as holiday programs and all school events), as well as connecting the religious school with other Temple clubs and organizations. The Mitzvah Corps may also do social action projects and other projects off site.

8th-10th graders can choose one of these tiers for first session, and they will have Judaics electives second session. 11th and 12th graders, a “Hebrew madrichim” selection means you will be in a Hebrew class first session, and a Judaics class second session. Additionally, only 11th and 12th graders can be office madrichim (this may include roles such as photography, videography and administrative tasks).

Please fill out the form below to express your interest in joining/returning to the Madrichim Program as well as your tier preferences. You will fill out more information, including the madrichim contract, during orientation on August 26th, and be placed before the start of religious school.

Thank you and we are so excited for a wonderful year!!

    Dear Current and Future Madrichim,

Hello! All of us at Beth Shalom are so excited that you’ve chosen to be a madrich (or madricha for a girl) for the 2018-2019 school year.  While many aspects of our Madrichim (that’s plural) Program will remain the same in the coming year, some parts of the way it is structured is changing.

Please read through this letter and the letter linked to below so that you understand all the responsibilities (and all the fun) you’ll have as a madrich(a). Inside you will find a sheet about the responsibilities and expectations of madrichim, a Madrichim Brit (like a covenant) and the actual application, that will tell us lots more about you!

As was implemented this year, each madrich or madricha will have a specific role. On the application itself you will let us know what your preference is. If you are interested in becoming a madrich(a), but are not interested in being placed in a classroom, please note this on the application and let us know what kind of placement you are interested in.

Remember, 7th graders have a 2018-2018 Madrichim in Training Program. Anyone in 8th-12th grade should fill out an application to be an in-class madrich(a), a Hebrew specialist, a photographer, a video-maker, an office worker, attendance specialist and more.

TBS Religious School Vaccination Form

2018-19 Kehillat Torah Madrichim Application
_____________________________________________

Kehillat Torah Madrichim Application

Green Team Composting
TBS has partnered with our neighbor All Saints Episcopal congregation to create a food waste drop off point at TBS through GoZero Composting. The bins are located behind TBS off the parking lot. All Saints and Temple Beth Shalom are utilizing these bins for the food waste generated at both facilities. All Saints has around 30 households participating the GoZero drop off point behind TBS. The TBS Green Team would like to provide the opportunity for TBS members to participate in the drop off program.

Each TBS household that would like to participate in the food waste drop off program can sign up and contribute to the Green Team Fund. The cost is $75 annually, to be used for buckets, bags, and cost of pickup.
